Phenomics focuses on measuring different traits of certain organisms at different ontogenetic levels and under different environments. It involves the application and development of tools for discovering such traits. In crop development, breeders use it to meet the growing demand for stable and flexible varieties. Progress in applying the phenomic approach to large breeding populations or diversity panels has been slowed by three challenges: 1) limitations in field phenotyping capacity and environmental characterization; 2) the costs of conventional technologies such as human-to-human and human-to-computer communication; and 3) the analysis of the collected data.
Phenoagro is a system and method for the phenotyping of multiple crops on a large scale and with high resolution, employing remote data acquisition and processing through a wide variety of sensors.
