What is the Agrifoodtech Challenge FDM?
The Agrifoodtech Challenge Maturation Fund (MDF) is an open innovation initiative focused on scaling up agrifood technology solutions through a Maturation Fund.
This initiative is designed to strengthen the winning proposals that participated in the Agrifoodtech Challenge in 2024.
Phases of the Initiative
Alignment and Structuring
Project structuring. Through formulation workshops, each pair transforms the challenge into a solid proposal, defining its scope, technology maturity level (TRL), and work plan to clearly begin execution.
Visibility of progress and activation of the ecosystem
Presentation of progress, visibility of partnerships, and demonstration of the Fund’s implementation. A time to connect, position, and build trust.
Fund Implementation
The implementation of the Fund began: support, development, validation, and growth. Here, partnerships moved from theory to action.
Results and impact
We measure results, show the impact achieved, the lessons learned, and the opportunities that open up to continue scaling innovation.
How did it all begin?
Context 2024
In 2024, the Agrifoodtech Challenge connected corporations with problem solvers to address strategic challenges in the agri-food sector. This process resulted in partnerships with high technological and commercial potential.
Now, the Maturation Fund (FDM) takes those winning alliances and supports them in their technical, commercial and strategic validation, accelerating their arrival to the market.
The FDM is not a traditional call for proposals. It is a strengthening stage for projects already validated in an open innovation environment.
Agrifoodtech Challenge 2024 Solvers
Global Meals
A company that transforms lives through food innovation with social impact won the Blanquita Challenge, which sought to develop a functional, indulgent, and affordable food made from rice bran. The goal was to create a product that not only provides added value but also offers significant nutritional benefits and meets the needs of the modern consumer. Global Meals’ solution was to design a portfolio of functional products incorporating rice bran. They developed the physicochemical properties of the ingredient to achieve its integration into baked goods, soups, instant beverages, and snacks, thereby strengthening the food industry’s ingredient offering and revaluing the use of food upcycling.
Biocircular Waste
Residua is a biotechnology company focused on developing circular solutions to transform industrial byproducts into high-value inputs. They took on the challenge from the Pichichí Sugar Mill, forming an alliance to design an efficient composting system using bagasse, ash, and other organic waste. Their solution, Regenera, uses bioconversion with black soldier flies to transform waste into protein for animal feed and high-value biofertilizers in just 15 days. This approach not only improves the productivity of organic sugarcane and reduces the use of chemicals, but also offers a scalable and sustainable alternative to traditional composting, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the circular economy and food security in the agribusiness sector.

Phase 1 – Alignment and Structuring

Phase 2 - Visibility of progress and activation of the ecosystem
During the Xpanz event , we publicly presented the progress of our partnerships, connected key stakeholders in the ecosystem, and demonstrated that the Fund was already operational. This forum allowed us to showcase the work done and strengthen trust among our partners.
Phase 3 – Fund Implementation
With the agreements signed and the support secured, we began implementing the Fund. This stage marks the transition from planning to implementation: technical support, solution development, validation, and strengthening of business models.
This is where innovation materializes and partnerships begin to generate concrete results.
