In this regard, the UN and the ONPI have promoted an intellectual property system to foster innovation, competitiveness, and creativity in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will save our species from environmental catastrophe. If all governments act promptly and in a concerted effort, aided by the latest technologies, these goals can be achieved.
Between 2001 and 2019, 9,449 patent applications were filed, with China being the largest applicant for biodegradable technologies and sustainable materials, followed by Japan and South Korea. Fifty percent of these applications were filed in the last five years. This data demonstrates a growing interest among countries in innovating and creating technologies that help protect the environment.

- Biomass Intake ( BHI ) is a photocatalytic process for increasing biomass and species survival in marine aquaculture. It allows for increased production without requiring large investments in infrastructure, thus avoiding negative environmental impacts.
- Extruded Concentrate from Hydrolyzed Protein is a product and process that reuses fish viscera to obtain hydrolyzed protein that can be used to feed animals.
- The patented UBQ™ material is made from waste such as organic matter, contaminated cardboard, and non-recyclable plastic. It is capable of replacing petroleum-based products.
- PhenoAgro is a platform of georeferenced IoT devices that enables the efficient management of agricultural activities. It does so using information on the status and evolution of crops obtained on-site , in real time, and visualized remotely.
